Frequently Asked Questions

Can I access my boat 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Yes, for boats at the docks.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We currently accept Mastercard, Visa, Discover, AmEx,  and Cash.

How long should we anticipate boat repairs to take?
We attempt to work it weekend to weekend.  Drop off on the weekend, get it back in time for the next weekend.  Depends on parts availability and current work schedule. We are very upfront about how long repairs could take, especially when there are a lot of boats on the schedule.
Do you rent boats?

No we do not offer boat rentals.

When is the best time to service my boat before the season starts?
To ensure a smooth and safe boating season, we recommend contacting us in early spring—ideally between February and April to schedule your boat & motor service. Our certified marine technicians will inspect, repair, and prepare your boat before the peak summer season. At Park Marine Base, we offer comprehensive winterization and spring commissioning services to get you water-ready with confidence.
When should I change my gear oil?
Changing your gear oil should be part of your regular maintenance routine. We suggest doing this at least once a year, preferably during winterization. If you’re using your boat frequently or in saltwater conditions, more frequent changes may be necessary. Park Marine Base offers full lower unit and outdrive services to ensure optimal engine health and performance.
How much does it cost to dock a boat at a marina?
Dockage costs can vary depending on boat size, slip type (seasonal, transient, etc.), and specific marina amenities. At Park Marine Base, we offer competitively priced dockage with premium amenities including electric, water, and fuel services. For a custom quote tailored to your boat and needs, we encourage you to contact our team directly or request a dockage estimate through our website.
Do I need a boater’s safety license?

Yes, starting in 2025, all operators of motorized vessels, regardless of age, will be required to have a safety certificate. Visit NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation https://parks.ny.gov/boating/ for information on where in-person classes are held and approved on-line courses.

What do I do if my boat / engine alarm goes off?

An engine alarm signals a potential issue that shouldn’t be ignored. If this happens:

1. Reduce Speed: Slow down immediately to a safe controllable speed to minimize potential damage.

2. Assess the Situation / Check Gauges: Check for any visible issues—overheating, oil pressure loss, or fluid leaks.

3. Listen for Other Sounds: Any unusual noises coming from the engine or boat that might indicate the source of the problem.

4. Decide on Next Steps: If unsure or unable to resolve the issue turn off the engine and assess the situation. Call for a tow or assistance.

5. Contact a Service Expert: Reach out to the Park Marine Base service department. Our team can diagnose and repair the issue quickly to get you safely back on the water.

Troubleshooting the Alarm

Common Alarms:

Oil Pressure – Low oil pressure can cause an alarm. Ensure the oil level is correct.

Engine Temperature – Overheating can also cause an alarm. Check the engine temperature gauge. For an outboard, is there a telltale stream of water coming out?

Low Gear Lube – On MerCruiser sterndrives equipped with a gear lube monitor, low gear lube can trigger an alarm. This may indicate a seal leak in the outdrive.
