Do I need a boater’s safety license?

What do I do if my boat / engine alarm goes off?
An engine alarm signals a potential issue that shouldn’t be ignored. If this happens:
1. Reduce Speed: Slow down immediately to a safe controllable speed to minimize potential damage.
2. Assess the Situation / Check Gauges: Check for any visible issues—overheating, oil pressure loss, or fluid leaks.
3. Listen for Other Sounds: Any unusual noises coming from the engine or boat that might indicate the source of the problem.
4. Decide on Next Steps: If unsure or unable to resolve the issue turn off the engine and assess the situation. Call for a tow or assistance.
5. Contact a Service Expert: Reach out to the Park Marine Base service department. Our team can diagnose and repair the issue quickly to get you safely back on the water.
Troubleshooting the Alarm
Common Alarms:
Oil Pressure – Low oil pressure can cause an alarm. Ensure the oil level is correct.
Engine Temperature – Overheating can also cause an alarm. Check the engine temperature gauge. For an outboard, is there a telltale stream of water coming out?
Low Gear Lube – On MerCruiser sterndrives equipped with a gear lube monitor, low gear lube can trigger an alarm. This may indicate a seal leak in the outdrive.
